Blockchain and the Future of Work: An Overview of BitAngels LA

ICYMI.. blockchain will work for work.

On January 27th, we held a highly-attended BitAngels LA “Future of Work” event hosted by LA city leader Bill Inman, and featured speakers Arran Stewart, founder and CEO of Job.com; Satyen Raja, founder of WarriorSage; and Dr. Lene Martin, founder and director of blockchain at Pepperdine University.

Arran Stewart opened the event by chatting with Bill Inman, and discussed the future of work in blockchain as it relates to human capital. As CEO of Job.com, Arran has been actively studying the growing trends in hiring processes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Companies are looking to implement strong ‘work-at-home’ policies,” Arran said.

He noted that companies such as Microsoft have recently started paying remote workers based on the region that they live in. For example, an employee living in the Midwest would be paid a competitive region-based salary, rather than the amount they might earn if working in California. Arran added that the future of blockchain can serve an important role in fact-checking resumes and minimizing the frequency of companies hiring people who are unqualified or poor organizational fits.

Bill then spoke with Satyen, who discussed the importance of leadership within organizations. As founder of WarriorSage, Satyen’s goal is to help leaders find deep realizations that lead to peak performance and peak existence for founders and companies. Satyen feels that a commitment to leadership is crucial for organizations in the future of work. “Modern organizations need places where their teams can get support and learn leadership. When the whole team is dialed in, there is profound coherence.”

Dr. Lene Martin’s discussion with Bill followed Satyen, and she discussed the future of blockchain in both education and the workplace. She has introduced blockchain education programs at Pepperdine University and has overseen the development of students who may soon represent the future of the industry. Lene predicts that the blockchain market will grow exponentially, with an industry movement towards collaboration instead of competition. She added that she expects to see more entrepreneurial opportunities in blockchain for students upon their college graduation.

The event rounded off with pitches from three blockchain startups. Eddie Monroe presented on behalf of Awakening Health, which is building comprehensive humanoid robots to work in the medical field. Trevor Charleston discussed the ways in which Freely’s teletherapy provides quick and cheaper access to people with mental health issues. Finally, Dan Austin spoke about Shoofly and its mission to provide AI driven solutions to complex business problems.
